Good re-chroming service?
« on: February 24, 2010, 06:58:44 PM »
I will need to have the bumpers re-chromed for the Puma.  Anyone have a good experience locally?
Best regards,
Jim

Jim,

I got a quote from Streamwood Plating to refinish my Westy tent poles but I never got around to having the job done.  Price was reasonable and I've read a couple of good things online.

Streamwood Plating Inc
1545 Brandy Parkway, Streamwood, IL 60107-1809
(630) 830-6363‎

Good luck!!!

Jim,
If you use these guys let me know what kind of job they do and the prices. I really would like to get the bumpers done on my Ghia

Well Doug.  here's the deal.  You know how small the four bumper pieces are on a Puma?  Dinky.
I stopped there today and he gave the bargain price of $800.00   Sheesh.  I had better keep looking.  New ones are $575.00
best regards,
Jim

I really want to find someone in good old Illinois.  My sales territory includes Peoria and Bloomington.  maybe someone down there won't be as crazy.

Jim

Im out in Rockfalls/Stearling at least once a month. This place is out there http://www.qualitychromeplating.com/

I have never done anything with them. Their prices are on the site. If any club members want delivery/pickup I can do it if you can get me the parts. I cant tell you when they will get dropped off or picked up (all depends on when Im going out there), but the price is right, free.

That's part of my territory too.  Thanks for the tip.  I will carry the pieces with me to get estimates as I travel.
Best regards,
Jim

Hey Jim, I have used these folks to straighten and rechrome the Bumpers on our '64 Squareback. They didn't do a great job on straightening but the chrome was nice high quality. They are located in Rock Island, IL

I checked out a place that was recomended to me from some Harley guys called Calco plating on Wood st. 1.5 blocks south of Grand Ave. in the City. Well the guy was not to friendly, quoted me $100 ea for my pop out window on the bus (which are bare metal and NEW by the way) x 6 of them, oh yeah and about a 4 to 5 week turnaround. >:( So looks like I will be painting them seeing how I'd like to drive the bus some time this summer. I also asked about a blade only front bug bumper, he said $420--- I said #@%^*&! :P  This sucks ! I had a place that re-chromed my rear bumper on my bug, took only a few days and only charged $100, but of course they closed up last year so were S.O.L!
